How can I use a Milling Machine?

It’s without a doubt that the most adaptable machine instrument is the vertical mill milling machine. A mill can be used to flatten, bore, drill, chamfer, profile amongst other things. There are mini mills, mill drills, side mills and vertical mills. Milling machine is made up of a vertically mounted motor and a spindle, a table that can be moved around with good precision and a mount or body keeping everything together. Milling machines employ small cutters such as ball end mills, four flute mills etc. They however can also drive big fly cutters, boring bars, involute gear cutters and other increasingly arcane cutting tools. The mills fit into high precision Kaulitz which mount to the spindle and are capable of making cuts with a very high degree of accuracy.

You can also mount drilling chucks onto the spindles of mills and perform conventional drilling operations. There are many types of milling machines which can prove difficult to choose when deciding which one to buy. The smallest one is the mini mill which is used by people who make models e.g. model steam engines, model railroads etc. Next up is the mill drill, a tool which borrows attributes from both the drill press and full-sized vertical mill. Mill drills will typically have horsepower in the one horsepower range. On the high end you’ll find the vertical mill, sometimes called the Bridgeport which is the company which introduced it in the first place. They weigh several tons and consist of a motor and spindle, body and knee where the table is mounted and have a greater one a half horsepower range.

What importance does aluminium CNC machining have?

As we know it, Aluminum is categorized in the Group II of metals, which means it can easily lose electrons. Therefore it can be combined easily with other elements to form an alloy. When combusted with oxygen, aluminum forms an extra layer of oxidation (Magnesium Oxide) that gives the metal some layer to prevent it against corroding, rusting and even abrasion.
Group II metals have high electrical and thermal conductivity. Hence this it a good material for heat conductors and electricity conduction in CNC machining apparatus.

For Aluminum CNC machining, there are a number of factors that should be looked into. Because of the sensitivity of it, high speeds should be used when cutting so as to prevent cracking or damage of any kind. Aluminum cuts can be more extensive than stainless steel so cuts should be deep enough to prevent the tool from slipping on the surface. You should use sharp tools every time and in case of a sign of wearing out, replace them. When using Aluminium, you should always maintain a high cutting rate and never back from intensity unless it starts to wear. If it starts to wear, sharp objects are advisable to replace with since dull objects make it hard to bore the metallic surface. As friction will always occur, lubrication is important to cool the heat that the cutting goes out.

Aluminium CNC machining is used for products that require light materials. Some of these could be:

  • Aircraft equipment
  • House appliances especially those that use heat or electric
    conductivity
  • Cables and engine blades

How are lathe machines used in the food and medical industry?

Lathes are manufacturing machines used for shaping metallic or wooden materials by causing the workpiece or piece of material to be held and turned so as to be cut into the desired figure. CNC lathe machines incorporate the use of CNC which is Computer Numerical Control whereby computer programming is used to integrate the cutting of the material at an angle into desired figures that a manual machine cannot handle.

Lathes are used in various sectors of the industry such as; aerospace, automotive, construction, farming, fluid power, energy, oil, food and medical. The food industry being a complex, global collection of diverse entities that supplies most of the food taken by all the world’s population, depends on the intelligence of lathe machines.

Lathes are used in a wide variety of situations when it comes to the food industry. For example;

  • Pet food screw extruder machinery
  • Automatic food frying machine
  • Food grade sanitary grinding
  • Food shrink packaging machine
  • Popcorn making machine
  • Automatic tin canned food machinery
  • High speed packing machine for plastic pet food bag
  • Automatic flow wrap food packing machine
  • Poultry equipment meat and chicken food processing machinery
  • Food powder mixing machine
  • Automatic Hamburger patty forming machine food industry equipment
  • Nitrogen packing machine for food
  • Food fryer snacks machinery
  • Outdoor Icecream Machine

Lathes used in the medical industry include categories such as;

  • Respiratory care – oxygen masks, air entertainment masks, tracheostomy masks, aerosol masks, nasal cannulas, corrugated tubing, oxygen supply tubing
  • Home care/sleep apnea disposable masks, bubble humidifiers, corrugated tubing, nasal pillows, nasal masks vented
  • Anesthesia
  • Surgical disposables – hypodermics, diabetes healthcare, anesthesia systems
  • sutures

How has Precision Mechanics been applied in the industry?

Precision mechanics (also known as “fine mechanics”) is an engineering subject that talks about the design and building of smaller precision machines, often made up of measuring and controlling apparatus of different types.

Precision Mechanics has been used in some of the sectors of development. For example in industrial sector, business areas and home heating, ventilation and air-conditioning models, installation and service in and around the busy commercial centers and so on and so forth . The main partners of Precision Mechanical have for many years, about 45 years, brought together experience working in the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) industry. Work has been done both as a partner and as the main contractor for a huge number of projects differing both in size and detail of work.

Some of the applications of Precision Mechanic services include:

  • Used for central heating system
  • Used in climate control appliances
  • Used in the milling of stainless steel
  • Used in production of plastics
  • Used in temperature controls
  • Used in medical ultrasound
  • Used in ventilation systems
  • Used in milling machining
  • Used in glass processing and manufacturing
  • Mechanical system design
  • Used in processing of metal alloys such as Hastelloy and other metals such as cobalt and aluminium
  • Used in generating geothermal power
  • Used in construction of solar Panels
  • Processing of ceramics
